"As, in general, the providence of God reaches to all creatures, so, in a very special way, it cares for his church and disposes all things for its good."
God controls and directs all things, but why? To what end? To the end of His glory and the good of his people. Those are not separate concerns but strangely united. God, having given His name and tied His fame to His people, His glory is tied up in their good! His reputation depends on the promises that He has made to His people. Even the ‘bad things’ work good things. ’The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.’ God disposes of all things for the good of his Bride, the church. Need proof? Read Isaiah 43:3,5; 2 Timothy 4:10; Romans 8:28. Notice all the language of the confession. God works in ‘a very special way’ for the church. We are the Apple of His eye! (Deuteronomy 32:10; Zechariah 2:8)
